Orvieto, hiding a secret

Orvieto, the Etruscan city built on the volcanic mountain in Umbria

Orvieto, hides a secret. The city is built on a volcanic mountain. Inside the mountain the Etruscans long time ago digged a network of galleries and caves. Deep down in the mountain there was fresh drinking water. To reach the water they digged narrow, deep shafts. They are very deep.

Here is the secret, the mystery. When digging deeply inside a mountain you need light. Inside the cave it's totally dark. And when working down there you'll need oxygen to breath. But there is no oxygen. Still they did it, and nobody knows how!

Every era of history and every culture brings its own specific knowledge. Because every problem exists in a unique context of time and space. And by knowing the context you'll solve the problem!
